*If you come for just one session you won’t be able to use the glazes (pieces need to dry and be bisque-fired), but you can use colourful underglazes and we will cover the work with transparent glaze for free.

Hands down best clay experience! Inez was extremely knowledgable and so helpful. She gave us an intro on how to do some basic techniques, let us chose our own clay and then helped us build and perfect our creations. This class is great because if you're a beginner they can give you lots of guidance but if you're advanced you basically get free range to let your imagination come to life. It was such a relaxed setting, and the little studio dog was the highlight of the experience! There's also snacks and refreshments and location is super central. I had an amazing Saturday afternoon at the Taster session. Irina taught us some basic techniques of working with clay and was very supportive and patient throughout the lesson. I got a chance to make a cup which was later fired and I picked it up from the studio. I found working with clay really relaxing and the overall experience at Decima Clay was just excellent: beautiful and cosy studio, and my group mates were lovely! I recently had the pleasure of attending a Pottery Drop-in Session at Decima Clay Studio after missing one of the classes in their wheel throwing course. The experience was, as always, a delightful one, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts.

The teacher at Decima Clay Studio is fantastic. Their guidance and expertise created a warm and encouraging atmosphere, perfect for honing one's pottery skills. They were attentive to every student's needs, offering invaluable advice and patiently helping us to improve our techniques. It's rare to find an instructor who not only has a wealth of knowledge but is also so committed to their students' success.

The structure of the drop-in session was well-organised and easy to follow. The wheel rental process was seamless, and I was quickly set up to work on my pottery piece. The session was designed to accommodate students at various skill levels, so I never felt out of place or overwhelmed. The pacing was just right, allowing ample time to practice and learn while also maintaining a sense of progression.

This was a great class: the teacher was really clear and gave lots of support and we had a choice of different clays we could use. However, the class finished early to do the washing up and I don't think clean up time should be included as part of the 2-hour teaching time you pay for. In addition, when we went to collect our pots from the studio after glazing they'd been labelled incorrectly so no one knew where they were; we had to go through all the pots from workshops to try to identify the ones we made

This is the best class I've done at Decima. It was very well taught, and presented lots of options for creativity - loads of colours, moulds (from tiny pots to big plates) and ways to play with marbling. It's also better paced than some of Decima's other classes: you can easily make two items, if not three or even four.
My only comment is that, unlike the pics in this listing suggest, the class really isn't about checkerboard pottery. I had gone to the class intending to focus on that pattern, but it turns out it's really time-consuming, and not really what the class is about - it's much more about marbling. Also, you work with white base clay and add patterns onto it (which is very understandable as they go to the trouble of making their own coloured clay), so you couldn't really make the two-coloured checkerboard shown in some of the pics. Two people in the class did make checkerboard pieces, so it is possible, but in the end, I actually preferred the creativity of the marbling process. I'm very much looking forward to picking up my pieces.
